France Child benefit calculator
Estimate the French allocations familiales (family allowance) paid by the CAF or MSA for a household with two or more dependent children under 20, using the amounts in force from 1 April 2025. The benefit is means-tested: the household income decides whether you receive the full, half or quarter rate.
| Income bracket (Full rate)Full rate | 151.8% |
| Monthly benefit | 151,80 € |
How it works
- You qualify once you have at least two dependent children under 20 living in France. With only one child there is no allocation familiale.
- The full monthly amount is 151.80 EUR for two children, plus 237.81 EUR for each further child. A child aged 14 or over adds 75.90 EUR (except the eldest in a two-child family).
- Household net categorical income is compared with two ceilings. For two children they are 78,565 EUR and 104,719 EUR, each rising by 6,546 EUR per additional child. Below the first ceiling you get the full amount; between the two it is halved; above the second it is quartered.
- The annual figure shown here is the monthly amount times twelve. A degressive top-up (complément dégressif) smooths the income cliffs at each ceiling and is not modelled.
Worked example
A household with 3 children, one aged 15, and 60,000 EUR of net categorical income is below the first ceiling for three children (85,111 EUR), so it gets the full rate: 389.61 EUR for three children plus 75.90 EUR for the teenager = 465.51 EUR per month, or 5,586.12 EUR per year.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I get nothing with one child?+
France pays the allocation familiale only from the second dependent child. A single-child household can be entitled to other benefits (such as the prime à la naissance or the PreParE) but not to the allocations familiales calculated here.
Which income is used?+
The CAF uses your net categorical income (revenu net catégoriel) from two years earlier, so 2024 income governs 2026 rights. Enter that figure, not your current gross salary or your taxable income after the family quotient.
What is the 14-and-over top-up?+
Each child aged 14 or over adds 75.90 EUR per month at the full rate, halved or quartered with the rest if your income is above a ceiling. The one exception is the eldest child in a two-child family, who never triggers the top-up.
Is the benefit really cut in half above a ceiling?+
Yes. Above the first income ceiling the whole amount is halved, and above the second it is quartered. To avoid a sharp cliff right at each threshold the CAF adds a degressive complement, which this calculator does not compute.

- Metropolitan France, amounts from 1 April 2025. Counts only the allocations familiales, not other family benefits.
- Income means the household net categorical income (revenus 2024 for 2026 rights). The degressive complement at the income ceilings is not modelled, so amounts just above a ceiling are a slight underestimate.
- Assumes every entered child is a dependant under 20. The forfait versé for a 20-year-old and overseas (DOM) specifics are out of scope.
