Spain Child benefit calculator
Estimate the Complemento de Ayuda para la Infancia (CAPI), the Spanish child supplement paid by the INSS as part of the Ingreso Minimo Vital. It is a means-tested monthly payment per qualifying child, set by the child's age. Enter how many children fall in each age band and your household income to check eligibility and the yearly total.
| Monthly benefit | 115,00 € |
| Qualifying children | 1,00 € |
| Income threshold for this householdHousehold income is at or below the limit, so the benefit is payable. | 13.126,22 € |
How it works
- Each qualifying child earns a fixed monthly amount by age: 115 EUR for under 3, 80.50 EUR for ages 3 to 5, and 57.50 EUR for ages 6 to 17.
- The monthly amounts for all children are added together; the annual figure shown is that monthly total multiplied by 12.
- CAPI is means-tested. Prior-year household income must be below a limit that scales with household size (about 7,707 EUR for a single adult, rising roughly 2,216 EUR per child), and net assets must be under the CAPI limit.
- If income is above the limit for the household, no benefit is payable. This tool checks the income test only; the asset test and 12-month residence requirement also apply.
Worked example
An eligible household with two children aged 2 and 5 gets 115 EUR for the under-3 child plus 80.50 EUR for the 3-to-5 child, which is 195.50 EUR per month, or 2,346 EUR over a full year.
Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a universal child benefit?+
No. Spain has no universal child benefit. CAPI is targeted: it is paid only to lower-income households that pass the income and asset tests, as part of the Ingreso Minimo Vital scheme.
Why does the child's age matter?+
The monthly amount steps down with age: 115 EUR under 3, 80.50 EUR from 3 to 5, and 57.50 EUR from 6 until the child turns 18. Group each child into the right band.
Do I need to receive the full Ingreso Minimo Vital to get CAPI?+
No. CAPI can be received on its own if your household includes minors and meets the CAPI income and asset limits, even if you do not qualify for the full IMV.
Does this guarantee I will receive the amount shown?+
No. This is an estimate of the income test and the per-child amounts. Final entitlement depends on the asset test, the residence requirement and verification by the INSS.

This is an estimate for general guidance, not financial, tax, legal or medical advice. Figures can change and individual circumstances vary. Always confirm with the official sources listed before making decisions.
- Per-child amounts and income thresholds are 2025 figures.
- The income test uses three documented thresholds (single adult; two adults + 1 minor; two adults + 2 minors) and interpolates other household sizes linearly by a per-minor increment; the official limit tables are more granular.
- The per-member increase is capped at a household of about 5 members: beyond the 5th member the modelled income limit stops rising, so larger households are not over-credited.
- Only the income test is modelled. The CAPI net-asset limit and the 12-month legal residence requirement are not checked here.
- Mainland figures; CAPI is national, but always confirm current limits with the INSS.
